In June of 2019, we took our next giant leap and moved to Tbilisi, Georgia. That’s Georgia the country, not the state. I feel like I always have to clarify that. Didn’t know that such a place even existed? I’ll admit, it wasn’t more than a vague blip on my radar either until we received our list of possible assignments. At that time we were still in Africa, and we were given a list of about 30 city names (which I then proceeded to Google because I had no idea what country half of them were in) and we needed to rank them with #1 being our top choice and #30 our least desirable. Honestly, this process makes some people incredibly stressed, but I love it! I love researching each location, checking out pictures, reading reviews, and determining how suitable it is for our family and our lifestyle. I think it’s exciting!
It’s been 8 months since we arrived, and we have fallen in love with this gorgeous country and it’s welcoming people. The food is delicious, the wine is fantastic, and the views are constantly taking our breath away. Georgia is a former Soviet country located at the base of the Caucusus Mountains bordered by Russia, Turkey, Armenia, and Azerbaijan. The amount of history here is incredible, not to mention the credit for being the oldest wine producing country in the world. They’ve traced the oldest wine found here to 6000 BC! So far, we’ve been to Kazbegi in the north, Lapota Lake to the east, and Bakuriani, Borjomi, Gori, and the Ureki to the west. We’ve gone hiking, skiing, toured cave cities and ancient churches, swam in the Black Sea, and tasted wine from every region of the country.
This post would have been way too long if I went into our highlights of each of these amazing places, so stay tuned for more details!
